Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Despite the doom and gloom in the news about biodiesel producers struggling to keep their doors open and make a profit, Arkansas-based Pinnacle Biofuels Incorporated's (Crossett, Arkansas) new biodiesel plant in Crossett is running at full capacity.

The advantage this plant has over traditional producers is that it uses about 75% to 85% chicken fat blended with soybean oil. The feedstock is reasonably cheap, as the plant is located near three large poultry-processing plants.

At full capacity, the plant will produce about 10 million gallons of biodiesel a year. The plant also uses an innovative biofuels production technology developed by Greenline Industries (Larkspur, California). The technology uses a continuous-flow, fully automated waterless processing system that significantly exceeds ASTM D6751 fuel quality specifications with zero output of contaminated water. The site also has its own tank farm with 475,000 gallons of feedstock storage capacity and 375,000 gallons of finished product storage.

Construction began on the estimated $10 million plant in July 2007, and the plant began production on May 12 of this year. The plant is located within the Crossett Industrial Park in Crossett, Arkansas, about 112 miles south of Little Rock.

With the Crossett plant online, Arkansas now has three operating biodiesel plants. Arkansas SoyEnergy Group operates a 3-million-gallon-per-year plant in De Witt, and FutureFuel Corporation operates a 160-million-gallon-per-year plant at the former Eastman Chemical Complex in Batesville.

Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 156 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 98 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
