Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Cooperative-owned Prairie Pride, Incorporated (Nevada, Missouri) is preparing to start construction next month on a combination soybean refinery and biodiesel manufacturing operation in Nevada, Missouri. Plans call for the creation of a 21 million-bushel per year soybean crushing and refining operation to provide virgin soybean oil to feed a 30 million-gallon per year biodiesel plant. The plant will also generate about 467,000 tons of soybean meal each year. The total cost of both plants is estimated at $85 million.
Some pre-construction tree clearing and grading has already been done at the site and the project is scheduled to be in full swing by November 2006. Construction is expected to take a year to complete and the company is shooting for an October 2007 completion to be ready for the new soybean harvest.
Prairie Pride, Incorporated is a new-generation producer cooperative. In order to support their country and community, a group of soybean producers came together to create a new-generation cooperative that is currently planning to extract soybean oil from locally produced soybeans and process it into biodiesel. The production of biodiesel serves three important goals: adds value to soybean products, lessens the United States dependency on foreign oil and reduces the level of harmful carbon monoxide and particulates released into the atmosphere.
