Procter & Gamble Plans $125 Million Expansion in Louisiana

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) (Cincinnati, Ohio) plans several expansion projects for its Pineville, Louisiana plant to produce liquid laundry detergents. The projects will be executed in two phases. Phase one will include the installation of a second production unit producing liquid laundry detergents, which is planned for this summer. The second phase of the expansion will further expand liquid laundry detergent capacity in the existing plant operations.

The total investment in these projects is estimated at nearly $125 million. The second phase of the expansion is scheduled to be underway early in 2004 and completed mid 2005.

Watkins Engineers and Constructors (Pineville, Louisiana), P&G's alliance contractor for this site, are optimistic about performing the engineering and construction services for these projects. P&G is currently one of two plants nationwide that manufactures Tide dry detergent and these multiple expansions will enable the production of heavy-duty liquid laundry detergent under such brand names as Tide, Bold, Gain, and Cheer.

Although dry detergents are the traditional form and still considered the most popular among consumers, liquid detergents are easy to measure, quick to dispense and better at pre-treating stains and hand washing items.

Procter and Gamble has come along way since founded 1837 as a small family operated soap and candle company. They now have over 106,000 employees and market over 250 products serving a customer base of over five billion.
