Quality Ridge Windfarm Comes Online in British Columbia

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Capital Power Corporation (TSX:CPX), a subsidiary of EPCOR (Edmonton, Alberta), recently commissioned the 142.2-megawatt (MW) Quality Ridge Windfarm, located in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, for commercial operation. The total investment necessary to complete this project was approximately $450 million.

This windfarm consists of 79 Vestas wind turbines. There were 35 V-90 and 44 V-100 wind turbines that each produced 1.8 MW. Approximately 45,000 homes will be serviced annually by the electrical generation produced from this facility.

M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) provided general contracting services for the development of the project, which includes a 230-kilovolt (kV) substation and approximately 20 kilometers of transmission line to the local grid system. Construction began in November 2011. Vestas was the technology provider, offering a 10-year warranty on parts and labor for the facility.

Capital Power Corporation has established a 25-year power purchase agreement, with B.C. Hydro as its off-taker.
