Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--REG Houston LLC (Seabrook, Texas), a subsidiary of Renewable Energy Group Incorporated (Ames, Iowa), is currently assessing damage to a new biodiesel plant that just went into full production last week. Hurricane Ike hit the Seabrook and Galveston Bay industrial areas hard, but REG officials said that the plant has power and that equipment and systems did not appear to suffer any major damage. The plant is expected to resume production later this week.
The estimated $60 million plant was built by Lurgi Incorporated (Memphis, Tennessee) and is located within the LBC Houston LP (Seabrook) terminal site in Seabrook. The facility has great transportation infrastructure access for raw soybean oil feedstock material through the Houston Ship Channel, as well as truck and rail racks, deepwater tanker, pipeline access and finished product storage.
When the Seabrook plant goes back online, the facility will be REG's ninth biodiesel plant in operation. The company has a combined production capacity of more than 300 million gallons per year of biodiesel.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market.
