Released Monday, August 29, 2011
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Renewable Energy Group Incorporated (REG) (Ames, Iowa) and its wholly owned subsidiary REG Albert Lea LLC (Albert Lea, Minnesota) have put the former SoyMor Biodiesel plant in Albert Lea back to work. The company is now shipping biodiesel from the newly acquired facility.
The company shipped its first load of ASTM-specification biodiesel via tanker truck to the Trails Travel Center truck stop, which is along Interstate 35 in Albert Lea. REG is offering both B99 and B100 biodiesel to area petroleum distributors.
REG entered into an asset-purchase agreement with the shuttered SoyMor Cooperative and SoyMor Biodiesel LLC (Albert Lea) back in June 2011. For more information, see June 21, 2011, article - Renewable Energy Group to Purchase SoyMor Assets in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The company performed some retrofit work over the past couple of months, and the 30 million-gallon-per-year plant is running at full capacity.
The plant utilizes refined vegetable oil feedstock to produce biodiesel, and originally began production in April 2005. SoyMor shuttered the plant in March 2008 due to the rising costs of soy oil feedstock.
The REG Albert Lea LLC facility will bring the REG-owned and -operated total production capacity to more than 210 million gallons annually, making REG the largest biodiesel producer in the U.S.
