Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned biodiesel start-up San Juan Biodiesel LLC (Durango, Colorado) is planning an official ground-breaking ceremony this weekend to commemorate the start of construction on the state’s second biodiesel manufacturing plant.

The public is invited to attend the event, which will take place at the Weber Industrial Park in Dove Creek at 3 P.M (MST) Saturday, September 8, 2007. The company is wrapping up financing for the estimated $5 million project and expects to start field construction within the next 30 days.

Plans call for a 5 million-gallon-per-year biodiesel plant that will process sunflower seed feedstock to produce the fuel. An on-site oil extrusion press will also be incorporated into the plant. An 8,000-square-foot building will be constructed for the crushing operation, and a 3,000-square-foot building for the biodiesel transesterification reactor and supporting equipment. The plant will also use the sunflower husks to fire its process steam boiler.

Construction is expected to take nine to 10 months to complete, and the company is taking bids from various construction crafts. San Juan will purchase all the process equipment and act as its own general contractor.

The plant will be in the Four Corners Region in Dove Creek, Colorado, about 80 miles northwest of Durango.
