Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The groundbreaking ceremony for State Grid Corporation of China's (SGCC) (Beijing) Jixi Pump-Storage Power Station was held at the construction site of Jixi in the Anhui province on January 15, 2013, according to a recent announcement from HydroChina Huadong Engineering Corporation (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), the project designer and a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (Beijing).

The Jixi Pump-Storage Power Station is located in Fuling Town of Jixi County, in central China's Anhui province. The project received official approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, the top planner for China, in October 2012. According to the approval, the project will be a daily regulated pump-storage power station furnished with six vertical hydraulic turbine-pump reversible units, each of 300 megawatts (MW). Total investment in the project will be about $1.53 billion. State Grid Xinyuan Holding Company Limited (Beijing), a fully-owned subsidiary of the SGCC, will be responsible for the development and future operations of the project.

The project mainly comprises an upper reservoir with normal pool level at 959.5 meters above sea level; a lower reservoir with normal pool level at 339.3 meters above sea level; a water diversion system; an underground powerhouse; a 550-kilovolt switch yard; and associated support facilities.

Upon completion, the project will be important for peak and frequency regulation. It will be an emergency backup power source in the East China Power Grid and play an import role in securing power transmission from Anhui to East China, as well as in promoting clean energy development in the region.

Among the leaders and representatives who attended the ceremony were Luan Jun, the vice president of SGCC, and Chen Yining, the managing director of Hydrochina Huadong.
