Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department has delayed by three months the kick-off of a $150 million grassroot water desalination project in Dade County, Florida. The water utility needs additional time to finish redesigning the brine water reverse osmosis desalination plant.
The Miami Heights Desalination Plant would turn about 20 million gallons of brackish water into potable water every day. The project remains in the preliminary design stage.
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department has not yet selected an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm for the project, which is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2014. The project is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2015. Upon selection, the EPC firm will complete engineering specifications and release equipment requests for proposal (RFPs).
The project will require foundations, concrete, a brine system, storage tanks, intake/discharge pipelines, a pre-treatment system, a reverse osmosis unit, a membrane filtration system, high-pressure pumps, a flush tank, heat exchangers, process controls, and utility tie-ins.
