Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Korea is proceeding with the construction of a new nuclear power plant. Its previous government, which had planned to phase out nuclear power, halted the plant's development for more than five years, but later reversed course.
Following approval of an implementation plan, site work will begin on units 3 and 4 for the Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant. Construction is slated to begin within the next 12 months.
Shin Hanul's two units will be categorized as APR-1400, or 1.4-gigawatt (GW) advanced pressurized water nuclear reactors, with a total construction cost of 11.68 trillion won (US$8.77 billion). They are scheduled for completion in 2033.
