The facility, located in the region of Extremadura, central Spain, is equipped with two 1,050-megawatt (MW) Siemens pressurized water reactors (PWR). The unit began operations in May 1981 and was taken offline on November 10, 2012. During this outage, the nuclear fuel will be replaced. According to plant authorities, the outage will be completed by December 22.
Plant officials informed Industrial Info that apart from the refueling and normal maintenance at the unit, they will perform an inspection of the high-pressure stop valve and turbine control valve, replacement of the low pressure stop valve and intercepting valve, and electric generator revision. The outage is expected to last 43 days.
Centrales Nucleares de Almaraz-Trillo (CNAT) was founded in 1999 and is owned by the companies Iberdrola (51.2%), Endesa (23.3%), Unión Fenosa (19.3%), Hidroeléctrica del Cantabrico (5.5%) and Nuclenor (0.7%).
