Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--German Energy Provider Stadtwerke Bremen (SWB) (Bremen) recently announced plans to build a new combined-cycle power station in Bremen in northern Germany. The natural-gas-fired facility will have a total capacity of about 420-megawatts (MW) and will be operational by 2013. SWB will invest 500 million euros ($733 million) in the project.
At the moment, the company is preparing the permitting process and expects to obtain permit approvals by mid-2010. Construction is expected to last three years. Meanwhile, SWB is conducting a bidding process for a general contractor that will be responsible for the major equipment and subcontractor bids. The project envisions the installation of a single-shaft unit with combustion and steam turbines, and a heat-recovery steam generator.
The combined-cycle facility will produce 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year for the city of Bremen. German Railway Company will purchase 40% of the plant's production.
SWB is a local energy provider that owns three conventionally fired power plants that generate more than 1,000 MW of electricity. Additionally, the company operates two waste-fired power plants and various small windfarms. Ecological sustainability is one of the key targets of SWB. By 2020, the company will reduce its CO2 emissions 20%, company authorities have announced.
