Tennessee Gas Pipeline Puts its South Texas Expansion Project into Service

Initial capacity for this expansion project is near 225 mmscfd of natural gas, which will increase to 320 mmscfd. The entire capacity is already subscribed under 15-year contracts and the gas will be utilized in northern Mexico for gas-fired power generation.

Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company has completed construction on and put into service its South Texas Expansion Project. The $39.8 million expansion project entered service on August 1, 2003. The South Texas Expansion Project entailed the construction of a new natural gas compressor station (PEC 01009836 & Plant 1058242) utilizing two Caterpillar internal combustions engines near Edinburg Texas and the construction of 9.3 miles of 36" diameter natural gas transmission pipeline (PEC 01008938).

The 9.3 miles of new pipeline will connect Tennessee's South System in Hidalgo County Texas with Gasoducto del Rio in northern Mexico.

Tennessee Gas is presently constructing the last aspect of the project, a 7 mile 24" diameter looping pipeline on the Donna Line scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2003. Initial capacity for this expansion project is near 225 mmscfd of natural gas, which will increase to 320 mmscfd. The entire capacity is already subscribed under 15-year contracts and the gas will be utilized in northern Mexico for gas-fired power generation.

Tennessee Gap Pipeline Company is a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation (Houston Texas) (NYSE:EP) and operates a 14,700-mile pipeline stretching from Mexico to Canada and powered by over 1.4 million horsepower of compression along its system.
