Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Invenergy Wind LLC will have added a total of 377 megawatts (MW) to the Texas electrical power grid by this fall. A duo of wind energy projects in Floyd and Howard counties will combine to generate renewable energy for their respective regions. The 120-MW Gunsight Mountain Windfarm in Floyd County just went online earlier this month, and the 257-MW Wake Windfarm in Howard County is expected to be online by October 2016.
The two windfarms will both feature General Electric wind turbines. The Gunsight Mountain project is utilizing 67 turbines, while the Wake Wind Project is utilizing 150. Construction on both projects started early last year and were put on a tight schedule to be completed this year to qualify for the production tax credit (PTC) tax credit offered from the Federal Government.
Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for both of the wind projects. The duo has a total investment value of over $250 million. These wind projects will continue to make Texas one of the premier locations in the world for wind energy generation. A contracted third-party operator will be responsible for operation and maintenance for the windfarms.
