Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 257-megawatt (MW) Wake Windfarm, which is located in Dickens, Crosby and Floyd counties in Texas, recently began commercial operations following its completion by Invenergy Wind North America (Chicago, Illinois).
The windfarm is utilizing 150 General Electric wind turbines, and will sell the energy produced under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The energy generated from this new windfarm will be enough to power over 80,000 homes each year. The windfarm will also contribute economic benefits to the surrounding community in the form of permanent jobs, local spending, and annual community investment.
Construction of the windfarm was completed by Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota), and the project qualifies for the U.S. renewable energy production tax credit (PTC). Invenergy Wind North America is the owner and operator of the windfarm. The project has a total investment value of $134 million. Construction began in the first quarter of 2015, and the windfarm achieved commercial operations last month.
