Tharaldson Ethanol Plans First Grind for Week after Christmas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Tharaldson Ethanol LLC (Fargo, North Dakota) is shooting for the week after Christmas to perform its first grind and begin fuel-ethanol production at the company's new plant in Casselton, North Dakota.

Once in full operation, the plant will have a nameplate capacity of 100 million gallons per year, processing 36 million bushels of Dakota-grown corn annually. The plant will also generate about 300,000 tons of distillers dried grains per year, a byproduct of ethanol production.

Vogelbusch USA Incorporated (Katy, Texas) provided the licensed ethanol process technology, and the plant was built by the team of Valley Engineering Incorporated (Fargo) and Wanzek Construction (Fargo). Valley Engineering is also performing the balance of plant procedures for the facility.

Construction started in May of 2007 (see related news article from August 21, 2007 - Tharaldson Energy Begins Construction on North Dakota Fuel Ethanol Plant) and took 16 months to complete. Some 600-plus contractors and support employees were on site during construction of the plant. Once completed, 50 new permanent jobs will be created. The plant required an investment of approximately $200 million.

The facility is located roughly 20 miles west of Fargo off 36th Street South in Casselton and is currently taking in corn.
