The Andersons Incorporated (NASDAQ:ANDE)(Maumee, Ohio) has begun grinding corn and is going through start-up procedures at its second fuel ethanol located in Logansport, Indiana. At 10:45 a.m. May 3, the first drop of ethanol came out of the plant and by this week, the plant will be running at 60% capacity with anticipations of running at 100% capacity within the next ten days.
Costs to build the plant are in the $175 million range.
The Andersons is looking to make a big splash in the fuel ethanol industry with plans to build another five plants in the U.S. The company began producing ethanol at its first plant located in Albion, Michigan in August of last year and has plans to build new facilities in Greenville, Ohio; Dunkirk, Indiana; Galion, Ohio and Champaign, Illinois in addition to the Logansport plant.
Construction has started on the Greenville project and the additional projects are scheduled to get underway during the 2007 calendar year. Once all plants are up and running, The Andersons will have the capacity of producing 600 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol.
