Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The State Grid, China’s largest power distributor, announced that the first unit of the Right Bank Power Station of the Three Gorges Project, the largest hydropower project in the world, will put into operation in later this month. The associated 500 kV transmission system is currently in commissioning.

There are seven total transmission lines for the Right Bank Power Station of the Three Gorges Project. Three lines are in operation, two will be ready later this month and another two will be ready in November. Since starting construction in 2002, the State Grid has built 4,620 kilometers of transmission line to meet the demand for power transmission from the Three Gorges Project by the end of April 2007.

There are twelve generating units with a single capacity of 700 MW at the Right Bank Power Station. Installation started last year and four units will be put into operation this year with power being mainly transmitted to East China and the Guangdong region.

The Three Gorges Power Transmission Project is a part of the Three Gorges Project, and also the core project for the establishing a nationwide interconnected grid. The Three Gorges Power Station has 26 generating units with a single capacity of 700 MW located at the Right Bank and Left Bank Power Stations. Fourteen units at the Left Bank Power Station have been fully operational since September 16, 2005. Twelve units at the Right Bank Power Station will be put into operation starting this year and will be fully operational by 2008.

The Three Gorges Power Transmission Project transmitted 158 billion kWh of electric power to eleven provinces in east, central and south China by May 10, 2007, which has alleviated the power shortage in China.
