Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Thermogen Industries (Millinocket, Maine), a subsidiary of Cate Street Capital (Portsmouth, New Hampshire), has begun construction on a torrefied wood pellet manufacturing mill in Millinocket, Maine. The facility is being constructed at the idle Great Northern Paper mill.
Site work and underground utilities have been completed, and Thermogen expects construction to be in full swing by the late spring of 2013, when the ground thaws. Woodard & Curran Incorporated (Bangor, Maine) and D & S Engineering Incorporated (Millinocket, Maine) are providing engineering for the project, and The Conti Group (Edison, New Jersey) has been selected as the engineering, procurement and construction company for the mill.
The $48 million plant will produce 110,000 tons per year of torrefied wood pellets annually. When completed in late 2013, the pellets will feed Cape Streets' 75-megawatt biomass power station, which is under construction in Berlin, New Hampshire.
The facility is expected to create approximately 75 jobs and more than 300 additional forestry-related jobs for wood harvesting and the handling of wood feedstocks that will feed the plant.
