Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 755-megawatt (MW) Unit 5 at Four Corners Power Station, which is located in Fruitland, New Mexico, was taken offline Wednesday after a leak was discovered in the turbine's hydraulic system.
Plant officials said that they continue to analyze the situation before beginning repairs. They are hoping for a brief turnaround, although the unit is not expected to return to service before Saturday, May 9. Officials said they will check the unit for additional leaks.
Four Corners Power Station comprises two operational 755-MW units. Unit 4 is currently offline, but in startup to return to service after shutting for a planned maintenance reliability outage in February. Units 1, 2 and 3 were closed in December 2013.
According to Salt River Project's Web site, units 1, 2 and 3 are owned by Arizona Public Service Company (APS) (Phoenix, Arizona), which also operates units 4 and 5; however, Southern California Edison owns 48% of units 4 and 5, with APS owning 15%, Public Service Company of New Mexico owning 13%, Salt River Project owning 10%, Tucson Electric Power owning 7%, and El Paso Electric owning 7%. APS is a subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (NYSE:PNW) (Phoenix).
