White House to Hold Coal-Mining Auctions - The Trump administration is auctioning off coal leases on federal lands in four U.S. states. The competitive sales kicked off Tuesday with the offer of two leases in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, for the right to mine underneath a combined 14,050 acres of private land containing an estimated 53 million tons of metallurgical coal used in steelmaking. On October 6, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management will offer 1,262 acres in Montana with an expected 167.5 million tons of recoverable coal. Two days later it will auction 3,508 acres in Wyoming with an estimated 365 million tons of recoverable coal. (Reuters)

MidOcean Buys into Petronas' LNG Canada Stake - Liquefied natural gas company MidOcean (New York, New York), backed by EIG (Washington, D.C.) and Saudi Aramco (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia), has agreed to buy a fifth of the Petronas (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) venture that holds a 25% stake in Shell (London, England)-led LNG Canada (Kitimat, British Columbia), MidOcean said on Tuesday. The deal also includes a fifth of Malaysian state energy group Petronas's Canadian upstream assets in the Montney shale gas region that feeds into LNG Canada. MidOcean declined to comment on the price of the transaction, but a person familiar with the situation put it at a little more than US$3 billion. (Reuters)
