Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held United States EnviroFuels LLC (Riverview, Florida) is developing a $140 million sugarcane-based ethanol plant in Highlands County, Florida. Project developers say engineering design and permitting are under way; when financing is obtained, construction is expected to begin by mid-2011, and commercial operations will begin a year later.
The company already has cane and sorghum growers under contract in southern Florida to provide feedstock for the plant. The company plans to create a cane and sorghum-based plant that will process 1.6 million tons of feedstock into 30 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol. The plant also will include a 20- to 25-megawatt cogeneration facility that will produce power for the plant and excess electricity for the local grid.
The 50-plus acre site is just south of Lake Placid, Florida, off State Road 70 and West of U.S. 27 in Highlands County.
