Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The U.S. is building more natural gas pipelines, especially to supply facilities that export natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and the coming quarter is expected to see major developments in some of the busiest places in the market. Industrial Info is tracking more than $8 billion worth of active and proposed natural gas pipeline projects across the U.S. that are slated to begin construction in the third quarter of 2025, nearly half of which is attributed to projects in Texas.

One of the largest projects set to begin construction in the coming months is the 365-mile Blackcomb Pipeline in Texas, which will transport up to 2.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas from the Permian Basin to the Agua Dulce Gas Hub near Corpus Christi, Texas. It is being developed by a joint venture, which is 17.5% owned by Targa Resources Corporation (Houston, Texas), 12.5% owned by MPLX LP (Findlay, Ohio) and 70% owned by WPC--itself a joint venture owned by WhiteWater Midstream (Austin, Texas) (50.6%), MPLX (30.4%) and Enbridge Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta) (19%).

The Blackcomb mainline was approved last summer in a final investment decision, after the project's developers secured sufficient transportation agreements from Devon Energy Corporation (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), Diamondback Energy Incorporated (Midland, Texas), Marathon Petroleum Corporation (Findlay, Ohio), which is the parent company of MPLX, and Targa, among others. It will be supported by a series of compressor stations, also nearing construction and located at the origin point near Ozona in the Permian Basin and, west to east, near the cities of Junction, San Antonio and George West.

Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Oil & Gas Pipeline Project Database can read detailed reports on the Blackcomb mainline and stations near Ozona, Junction, San Antonio and George West.

Gregory Lorne Ebel, the chief executive officer of Enbridge, hailed the Blackcomb development in the company's most recent earnings-related conference call: "In 2026, after Blackcomb enters service, we expect to have an equity interest in 30% of all the Permian egress capacity. Our investment in this portfolio positions Enbridge to capture growing demand for Permian Gas across the U.S. Gulf Coast."

Enbridge also is helping to develop a $75 million pipeline from Caswell County to Person County, North Carolina, which will run eight miles and is expected to transport up to 75 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas. Dominion Energy Incorporated (Richmond, Virginia) is managing the project, which will run through Enbridge's compressor station in Ruffin, North Carolina. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report and plant profile for the station.

Another major gas pipeline developer, Sempra Energy (San Diego, California), is developing the Texas Connector Pipeline, which will connect its liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Port Arthur, Texas, to various existing lines that draw from major U.S. natural gas basins. The line, split between a 26.6-mile northern segment and a 7.6-mile southern segment, will carry up to 2 billion cubic feet per day. Subscribers can read detailed reports on the northern and southern segments.

Developers of the Port Arthur LNG project notched a victory last week when the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) granted permission for Phase II of the project to export LNG to countries without a free trade agreement with the U.S. For more information, see Industrial Info's June 2, 2025, article - U.S. Grants Export Permission for Phase II of Sempra's Port Arthur LNG Project.
