U.S. Mid-Atlantic Region to See $2.6 Billion in First-Quarter Project Starts
The Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. has 138 major industrial projects that are planned to kick off in the first quarter of this year.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., comprising the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, has 138 major industrial projects that are planned to kick off in the first quarter of this year. The projects include both capital and maintenance projects and have a combined total invest value (TIV) of approximately $2.6 billion. Leading the way for 1Q11 project starts in the region are the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with 15 projects valued at $564 million; the Alternatives Fuel Industry, with six projects valued at $491 million; and the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry, with 14 projects with a combined value of $394 million.

At a former International Paper Company (NYSE:IP) (Memphis, Tennessee) paper mill, Wood Fuel will construct ethanol and biodiesel plants. Industrial Turnaround Corporation (Chester, Virginia) is acting as project manager on the $400 million project. The plants will developed in multi-phase process, with final completion set for late 2016 or early 2017.
In the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, ZF Group North American Operations Incorporated (Northville, Michigan) plans to begin construction on a $350 million transmission manufacturing plant in Laurens, South Carolina. This quarter, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (Baltimore, Maryland) is set to begin construction on a $219 million grassroot public health laboratory in East Baltimore. The five-story, 225,000-square-foot building be located in the Science + Technology Park at John Hopkins. HDR CUH2A (Bethesda, Maryland) is acting as architect on the project.
