The $250,000 station is being fabricated by BK Nelson Construction (Riverside, California) and will be installed during the next several months. The project consists of an elevated truck ramp with access to the aggregate hopper, as well as several hundred feet of conveyor and a stacker.
The Los Banos quarry has an asphalt (ready-mix and recycled) operation, and a sand and gravel operation. In addition to Los Banos, the company operates 64 facilities in the West Division.
Vulcan Materials said in a recent conference call that it expects capital expenditures in 2014 of approximately $240 million to support increased shipments and to install production efficiency projects. The company had spent $169 million on capital expenditures through the first three quarters of the year.
Vulcan Materials announced a favorable growth outlook, especially in the Aggregates division, which is experiencing increased demand for sand and aggregates mainly due to improving construction markets in the U.S. The company stated that shipment of aggregates had increased by 9% during the past 12 months.
