Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--This year has been strong for the warehouse and distribution segment of the U.S. Food and Beverage Industry. Investments to build new facilities and expand current operations are on the rise. Industrial Info is currently tracking more than 175 warehouse and distribution center projects worth a combined $3.2 billion.

Project types include dry-storage facilities and refrigerated facilities, and include both grassroot construction and plant expansions. The investment value of individual projects range from $1 million to as much as $185 million.

The cumulative value of all projects shows just more than 28.5 million square feet in proposed construction.

Project footprints range in size from 10,000 square feet to 1.2 million square feet. The majority of the projects are in the 200,000- to 300,000-square-foot range. Project plans in the 50,000- to 100,000-square-foot range tallied up to just more than 50. Meanwhile, just more than a handful of the projects call for more than 1 million square feet of contiguous space.
