Weyerhaeuser Company (Federal Way, Washington) (NYSE:WY ) is in the steel erection phase of construction on a new $125 million black liquor recovery boiler at a pulp mill in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Weyerhaeuser hopes to begin the mechanical installation phase this winter, with startup of the new boiler slated for the spring of 2007.

In fall of 2004, Industrialinfo.com released a project report detailing Weyerhaeuser's plan to replace the mill's aging boiler with a new energy efficient unit that would also benefit the mill by lowering emissions and reducing natural gas consumption. The new boiler is being supplied by Aker Kvaerner (NYSE:AKKVF )(Lysaker, Norway) with design specifications of 2,170 tons per day dry solids, 950F, 1,500 psi.

Weyerhaeuser Engineering Services is managing the entire project and is preparing and releasing bid packages on site.

Operations at the Grande Prairie site began in 1972 and the mill currently produces air-dried paper grade pulp, specialty pulps, and market pulp.
