Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Minera Florida Limitada (Santiago, Chile), a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamana Gold Incorporated (NYSE:AUY) (Toronto, Ontario), is studying the possibility of increasing gold production in Minera Florida, about 85 kilometers southwest of Chile's capital, Santiago. The $70 million mine and mill expansion project aims to increase annual production from 120,000 gold equivalent ounces to 150,000 gold equivalent ounces by 2012 from processing old and fresh flotation tailings. The company recently completed another expansion project, which increased milling capacity to more than 2,600 tons per day to increase annual gold production to approximately 120,000 gold equivalent ounces per year.

The Minera Florida facility became operational in 1986. All of the ore that is processed at the plant is from underground operations using open-stoping mining. The process includes crushing, single stage grinding, flotation and leaching of the flotation concentrates and dore production through electrowinning.

Yamana is a gold mining company with significant gold and copper production, gold development stage properties, exploration properties and land positions throughout Central and South America and is currently targeting sustainable production at 2 million gold equivalent ounces in 2012. In Chile, the company also owns and operates the El Penon gold mine.
