Yankee Gas Services Company (Meriden Connecticut) has received a $2 million state loan to study the possibility of constructing a new LNG peak shaving facility to be located in Waterbury Connecticut. The over $50 million plant will have the capacity to liquefy and store up to two Bcf of natural gas in the off season for use in peak demand times thus ensuring a steady supply of gas. Yankee Gas is presently in the process of securing state permitting and selecting a turnkey contractor for the project. Construction is expected to begin in late 2003 with a targeted in-service date in late 2004 for the peak winter heating season.
