Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) is tracking more than $13.2 billion worth of projects involving contractor Hensel Phelps Construction Company (Greely, Colorado). Most of the projects are for the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with the semiconductors and computers sector leading the way in terms of project value.

Hensel Phelps' activity in the semiconductors and computers sector involves a high-value semiconductor manufacturing plant project of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) (Santa Clara, California) in Arizona. According to David Pickering, Industrial Info's vice president of research for the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, semiconductor manufacturing projects move in cycles as new technologies become cheap enough to mass produce, and the sector is currently in up-cycle. For more information, see April 16, 2019, article - Webinar in Review: North American Industrial Manufacturing Industry Spending Strong Despite Trade Wars or listen to Industrial Info's recent webinar. The Arizona project involves continuing construction of a previously mothballed 14-nanometer chip manufacturing plant that never opened to produce a 7-nanometer chip. The project kicked off construction in late 2017 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $7 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Hensel Phelps also is acting as a general contractor for the growing data center sector. In Cheyenne, Wyoming, the company is at work on two data center projects for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) (Redmond, Washington). Hensel Phelps is constructing two data center buildings to increase the ability to perform Microsoft's growing services. The projects kicked off early last year and are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. The projects have a combined TIV of $400 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Phase III and Phase IV expansions.

Transportation systems make up a significant portion of Hensel Phelps' work. Among these projects is Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's (Washington, D.C.) Silver Line Phase II light rail expansion in Virginia. The project involves constructing an 11.4-mile rail extension with six stations (including Washington Dulles International Airport), a rail yard and maintenance facility. Construction on the $2.78 billion project began in mid-2014 and is expected to wrap up in early 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Hensel Phelps also is involved in projects at U.S. airports. Among them is the North Satellite Terminal modernization project at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington, for which the company is acting as construction manager. Phase I of project kicked off in 2017 and entails constructing an approximately 201,000-square-foot extension on the existing building plus eight gates. Phase I is expected to be completed this quarter. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. Phase II, which is planned to kick off later this year, involves renovating another section of the terminal and performing upgrades to increase airport capacity and efficiency. This phase is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Hensel Phelps also is involved in a couple of out-of-this-world projects that involve satellite manufacturing. In Littleton, Colorado, the company is underway with the expansion of a satellite manufacturing plant for Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) (Bethesda, Maryland). Construction on the $350 million project kicked off early last year and entails constructing a 266,000-square-foot building addition and installing production and testing equipment. The RMH Group is the project engineer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Merritt Island, Florida, Hensel Phelps is the general contractor for Oneweb Satellites' (Arlington, Virginia) grassroot communications satellite manufacturing plant. When completed, the 100,000-square-foot facility will manufacture approximately 15 low-Earth orbiting satellites per week for commercial and government industries. Construction began in early 2017 and is expected to be completed in third-quarter 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
