Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Unit 6 of Huadian Zibo Cogeneration Company Limited's (Zibo, Shandong) 660-megawatt (MW) cogeneration expansion project at Zibo Power Plant passed the 168-hour, continuous, full-load trial and began operations on November 9, 2013. The expansion project has now been completed, according to an announcement from China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) on November 12.

During the trial operation, the unit generated 56.48 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, with an average load of 336.2 MW; all protection, instruments and automation devices were operational; the quality of steam and water was fully qualified; the electrostatic dust-removing device and the flue gas desulfurization device were operational; the emission of scoot reached 17 milligrams per standard cubic meter, while SO2 reached 20 milligrams per standard cubic meter and nitrogen oxide reached 90 milligrams per standard cubic meter; the maximum shaft vibration of the steam turbine during full load reached 46.7 micrometers; the tightness of the steam turbine reached 0.106 Kpa per minute; the leakage of hydrogen from generator reached 2.8 standard cubic meter per day; the power supply coal consumption was 329.88 grams per kilowatt-hour; and the rate of plant service power consumption was 6.83%. All of these indicators were rated at a sound level.

As an example of environmental protection, the unit adopted the first wet-type electrostatic dust-removing technology in China, which will help to solve problems such as acid mist resulted from wet-type desulfurization, as well as alleviate the erection of downstream flue gas passage and largely reduce the cost in erosion control. The wet dust removing technology could control the emission of scoot within 15 milligrams per standard cubic meter, and achieve extra-low emission by removing 90% of PM2.5 and 80% of SO3.

The Huadian Zibo cogeneration expansion project is a key project in the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10) of the Shandong province. The project is built with two 330-MW, subcritical, coal-fired cogeneration units following the shutdown of 269.8 MW of small, coal-fired units in Shandong; of which, Unit 5 had been put into operation in December 2012.
