1,500 Megawatts of Qinshan Nuclear Station Now Online in China

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). The China Nation Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) was responsible for the development of China's first commercial power reactor. The 300 megawatt (MW) Qinshan I reactor started construction in March 1985 and was tied to the grid in December 1991 with full commercialization in April 1994. Construction of the 1,200 MW Qinshan II started in June 1996 for 600 MW Unit 1 and March 1997 for 600 MW Unit 2. Unit 1 was first operated December 2001 and went commercial April 2002. Qinshan II was fully operational and commercial with Unit 2, on May 10, 2004. Qinshan III is still under construction and consists of two 728 MW Units.

Qinshan Nuclear Power Station (Plant 1027450) is operated by state owned Qinshan Nuclear Power Company and its affiliates. The 300 MW Qinshan I is the first pressurized water reactor (PWR) that was designed and built by the Chinese. Qinshan II also utilizes Chinese PWR's with the assistance of Westinghouse Corporation (Monroeville, Pennsylvania), a division of British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) (Warrington, Cheshire England, United Kingdom) a crown corporation for Units 1 and 2. Qinshan III (PEC 88000025) consists of two Canadian 728 MW Candu-6 Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) provided by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) (Ottawa, Ontario Canada), a crown corporation.

Qinshan Nuclear Station is a 9.24% part of the 32,000 MW of nuclear power that China wants online by 2020.
