Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--OCI Solar Power (San Antonio, Texas) recently broke ground on the 400-megawatt (MW) Alamo I solar photovoltaic (PV) facility near San Antonio. The company has reached an agreement with CPS Energy for a power purchase agreement covering the next 25 years.
Phase I of the Alamo I facility is under construction, and the project is scheduled over multiple years. Alamo I will consist of solar PV panels mounted on a dual axis and equipped with ERCAM trackers, which will be supplied by ERCAM Energy (Guadalajara, Spain). The trackers will allow the facility to get the best possible results from the PV panels by following the position of the sun.
Phase I of the Alamo I project will begin commercial operations before the end of 2013, with approximately 41 MW of renewable energy going to the local grid system for distribution. The technology provider for the project is Nexolon (Seoul), a manufacturer of solar components. Nexolon is currently building a $100 million solar manufacturing plant in southeast San Antonio.
RES America (Austin, Texas) will oversee the construction of Phase I. When all 400 MW are in service, it is estimated there will be enough electricity generated to power more than 70,000 homes.
OCI Solar Power is a subsidiary of OCI Enterprises, which is the North American headquarters for OCI Company Limited (Seoul, South Korea).
