Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE:LNT) (Madison, Wisconsin) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for its Riverside Energy Center expansion near Beloit, Wisconsin. The project consists of a 650-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle expansion at the existing power plant.

The estimated $725 million project will create more than 1,000 construction jobs at peak construction and will be able to serve approximately 535,000 homes when completed in 2020. Construction is expected to begin ramping up in spring 2017. The location already includes a 675-MW, natural gas-fired power plant, as well as a 2.3-MW solar plant, which began generating power earlier this year. AECOM (NYSE:ACM) (Los Angeles, California) is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to this project.

"Today marks a major step forward in our mission to provide cost-effective, reliable energy for decades to come," said Patricia Kampling, Alliant Energy chairman, president and chief executive officer. "This highly efficient facility will modernize our generating operations and advance our transition to cleaner energy sources."

The company says it is on a path toward more efficient, environmentally friendlier generation.
