American Railcar Industries Expands In Arkansas

American Railcar Industries (ARI), an affiliate of ACF Industries, the oldest builder of railcars in the United States, provides railcar repair services and manufactures various component parts for railcars, including center-beam cars and covered hoppers.

American Railcar Industries (Saint Charles, Missouri), an affiliate of ACF Industries, has started construction on an expansion of their Paragould Plant in Arkansas (Plant 1051603). Groundbreaking occurred at the end of April with construction starting in early May 2004. The expansion includes the addition of a third production line and the construction of a new 105,000 square foot production facility. Total investment for the building and equipment was approximately $9 million dollars. Completion is estimated for December 2004. Approximately 270 jobs will be created and when construction is complete, ARI will begin building new types of cars in addition to the center-beam cars and covered hoppers it currently produces.

Forcum Lannom Contractors located in Dyersburg, Tennessee was awarded the general construction contract for the expansion.

The company manufactures, sells, leases freight and tank railcars with over 16,000 railcars in its fleet. ACF Industries, currently based in Missouri, has operations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
