Glass container manufacturer Arkansas Glass Container Corporation (Jonesboro, Arkansas) is undergoing a major upgrade of its glass container production plant located in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The company is rebuilding its two glass melting furnaces with new up to date equipment as well as adding downstream automation and high speed packaging capabilities.
Work is complete on one glass melting furnace and rebuild of the second furnace is planned to occur in January of 2003. These furnaces run on five year life cycles, known in the industry as campaigns, and must be rebuilt at the end of their campaign lives to insure future operating efficiencies. The company is also adding new burners, fuel management systems, forehearths, and two high-speed packaging lines. Construction is expected to be complete early next year.
As part of long term plans, the company will construct a new warehouse building by 2005.
