Beijing Datang Prepares to Start Construction of Shanxi Shentou Phase II

Beijing Datang Power Generation Company Limited (SEHK:991) (Beijing, China) is taking a 60 percent share in the construction of the $600 million second phase of the Shanxi Shentou No.2 power project. The project will involve constructing two coal-fired 500MW generators to be built in the 2002-2006 time frame. This project is located in Shanxi Province, 120 km southwest of Datong City. The project is being constructed between the Chinese Government and the Czech Government (Skodaexport Company Ltd) (Prague, Czech Republic), which will be the main power equipment supplier for the project.

Beijing Datang was established in December, 1994 as a joint stock limited company and is one of the largest independent power producers in China, owning and operating four power projects situated in the northern provinces of Beijing, Tingshan, and Hebei with a total installed capacity of 4,650MW. The company also has 5,900MW in new planned generation investment capacity as of 2002 thru 2005, resulting in a grand total of 11,470MW under the company's control.
