Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Info Resources, Incorporated (Sugar Land, Texas) -- BioFuel Energy LLC (NASDAQ: BIOF) (Denver, Colorado) subsidiaries, Buffalo Lake Energy LLC (Fairmont, Minnesota) and Pioneer Trail Energy LLC (Wood River, Nebraska) are running neck and neck to complete construction of new fuel ethanol plants located in Minnesota and Nebraska.

The projects are literally mirror images of each other having the same 115 million gallon per year nameplate capacity. Each project will cost more than $150 million to build and will utilize identical technology from Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia). Each plant is being built by the same contractor, TIC (The Industrial Company) (Casper, Wyoming). Both projects are scheduled for completion in mid to late June of this year.

The Wood River plant will more than likely start-up before the plant in Fairmont according to operations people at the locations. The Nebraska plant began taking in corn last week and some test grinding has started and full grinding is expected to start in mid June. Construction of the plant also started about two months before the Fairmont project did.

The Fairmont plant started construction in November of 2006 and the start-up date will more than likely be pushed back to late June or early July of 2008. The plant is taking in corn due to the fact that both facilities are tied to existing Cargill grain handling operations.

Once both plants are operating the company will have the capacity of producing 230 million gallons per year of the renewable fuel. Plans to build plants in Alta, Iowa; Gilman and Litchfield, Illinois and Atchison, Kansas have been shelved until more favorable commodity pricing returns to the corn market. Shelled corn was currently priced around $5.87 per bushel with ethanol prices nearing $2.50 per gallon.

Industrial Info's Ethanol Production Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging synthetic fuels market. This database covers 135 ethanol plants currently in operation and 290 plants under development. It also covers thirty-two operational biodiesel plants and 75 biodiesel plants under development.
