Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Privately held Calgren Renewable Fuels LLC (Aliso Viejo, California) is progressing with construction activity on a new fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Pixley, California. The project has been in development for over three and a half years and general site grading and underground work started back in April of this year and currently structural steel is rising from the site along with stainless steel tankage.
Plans call for the creation of a 50 million gallon per year plant that will process some 19 million bushels of locally grown corn annually to produce fuel ethanol and distillers grains.
The company has been working with Lurgi Incorporated (Memphis, Tennessee) on the licensed process technology and the firm is also acting at the turn-key E+P+C (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor for the project.
Construction on this $80 million-plus project is expected to take about 14 months to complete and the plant is expected to produce ethanol by mid-2008.Surprisingly, Calgren is currently the only ethanol plant in California that is underway with field construction. Other plant developers in the state are getting close to starting construction but none have moved into the field yet. Currently, there are only two ethanol plants operating in California however; there are over 14 plants in the pre-construction phase that are expected to move forward over the next couple of years.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Production Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging synthetic fuels market. This database covers 123 ethanol plants currently in operation and 290 plants under development. It also covers 32 operational biodiesel plants and 75 biodiesel plants under development.
