Chilled Water and Heating Projects Strong in North America

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is currently tracking $664 million in active construction and maintenance projects for chilled water and heating plants in the U.S. and Canada. Of these, 23 projects, with a combined total investment value (TIV) of $467 million, are under construction, and 19 projects totaling $19 million are planned maintenance shutdowns. The remainder of the projects are in the planning and engineering stages.

New building construction and changing emissions standards are driving the increased number of projects in this sector of the Industrial Manufacturing Industry. Universities and companies are upgrading boilers and chillers by building systems that maintain comfortable temperatures, light levels and indoor air quality, while operating with increased energy efficiency and reduced carbon-based emissions.

Industrial Info is tracking more than $100 million in chiller and heating projects in Ohio, including the $43 million East Regional Chilled Water Plant at Ohio State University (OSU) (Columbus). Construction on the plant is scheduled to begin in late summer or early fall of next year. The facility will provide approximately 15,000 tons of chilled water to existing and future buildings on the campus. RMF Engineering and KORDA Engineering, both located in Columbus, are providing design services for the new plant. Ruscilli Construction Company Incorporated (Columbus) will provide general construction services.

OSU is presently under way with construction on a $60 million water chiller and backup power project at the university's medical center in Columbus. Completion of the new facility is expected by the fall of next year.

The University of Houston (Houston, Texas) is under way on a $45 million chiller plant expansion. Construction is currently under way on a 10,000-square-foot building expansion of the existing chiller plant and will include the addition of three 2,500-ton chillers. When completed, the expansion will increase the university's steam and chilled water supply. Shah Smith Associates, Vaughn Construction Company and MLN Company, all located in Houston, are providing design, construction and subcontracting services for the expansion.

Industrial Info's North American Industrial Manufacturing Database covers plant and project information in all manufacturing sectors, including automotive, transportation, fabricated metal products, infrastructure and more. The universities (infrastructure) sector deals with the steam, chilled water, electrical distribution and independent power needs of universities and colleges.
