China Huadian Signs Agreement with Municipal Government to Develop Nuclear Power Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) signed an agreement on January 3, 2008, with the Luoyang municipal government to develop nuclear power in central China's Henan Province. China Huadian is developing nuclear power projects in response to the nation's energy policy of promoting clean energy, said Cheng Niangao, Vice President of China Huadian Corporation. The development of nuclear power could play an important role in securing China's energy supply, as well as sustainable development.

Luoyang's power demand is growing quickly. The city has excellent site resources suitable for the construction of nuclear power projects. Cheng said he hopes that the project can begin construction as soon as possible.

Luoyang selected China Huadian as its partner for the nuclear power project based on the company's work with Henan Province, said Lian Weiliang, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Henan Committee and secretary of CPC Luoyang Committee.

Luoyang's current installed capacity is more than 8,000 megawatts. A batch of thermal power projects are expected to receive approval soon. As a historic city, Luoyang's energy structure, dominated by thermal power, is in need of restructuring.

China Huadian Corporation is one of the top five nationwide power producers with multiple advantages in power construction, funding, technology, skills and experience. Luoyang began site selection for the nuclear power project in 2004 and is so far considering four sides: two in the Luhun Reservoir, one in the Xiaolangdi Reservoir and one in the Guxian Reservoir.
