Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced on April 9, 2008, that 52 coal-fired power plants in China will begin desulfurization renovations this year. The 52 plants were chosen by the NDRC and the State Environment Protection Administration in March 2007. The agencies were targeting 221 existing power projects at the time with an installed capacity of 13.7 gigawatts (GW) to cut annual SO2 emissions by about 4.9 million metric tons by 2010. The 52 plants involved have a total combined capacity of about 28.3 GW, including 17.4 GW from power enterprises managed by the central government and 10.9 GW managed by local governments.

China Huaneng Group

Nine units with a total capacity of 2,240 MW at the Matou, Douhe, Zhangjiakou and Leiyang power plants
China Huadian Corporation
Eleven units with a total capacity of 2,520 MW at the Tianjin Junliangcheng, Xiangfang, Laicheng, Xisaishan, Huangshi, Qishuyan and Weihuliang power plants
China Guodian Corporation
Ten units with a total capacity of 2,270 MW at the Baoji No. 2, Heze, Jiujiang, Lanzhou, Chaoyang and Huayingshan power plants
China Power Investment Corporation
Six units with a total capacity of 1,524 MW at the Yaomeng, Dongfang and Yangshupu power plants
