Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The second steam generator for Unit 1 of China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Sanmen Nuclear Power Project was lifted into its final position on January 10, 2013. The two steam generators for the unit now have been fully completed, according to an announcement from CNNC on January 15, 2013.
As reported, the erected steam generator, with a total weight of more than 600 metric tons, is the largest and heaviest equipment in the unit. The completion of the generators has created a favorable condition for the enveloping of the steel-made container vessel for the unit in the next stage, which means that the construction of the nuclear island for the unit has entered a peak season.
The Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant, located in Sanmen of East China's Zhejiang province, is one of the two self-reliant support projects for the localization of Westinghouse's AP1000 third-generation nuclear technology in China. The power plant has a total planned capacity of six 1,250-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units that are to be built in three phases, including two AP1000-based nuclear power units are to be built in Phase I. State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (Beijing) is serving as the general contractor on the project. China Nuclear Industry Fifth Construction Company Limited (Shanghai, China) is serving as the construction general contractor.
Construction of the nuclear island for Unit 1 of Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant kicked off in March 2009. Concrete placing for the conventional island of Unit 1 was completed on January 28, 2011. Erection of the generator for Unit 1 began on September 10, 2012. According to the schedule, units 1 and 2 of the project will be put into service in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
