Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company (ZTPC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), began boxing up the steam turbine cylinder for Unit 1 of China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant on May 9, 2013, according to an announcement from the CEEC on May 13.

The boxing up of the steam turbine is the most important and the most complicated part of the steam turbine's construction. As reported, the single-shaft, 4-cylinder, 6-exhaust, intermediate steam and water separation reheating reactive condensing steam turbine was placed on an 8.5-meter floor. The boxing began with the erection of the lower baffle plate on the No. 3 lower pressure cylinder. It's expected that the entire boxing process will take about two weeks.

The Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant is located in Sanmen, in eastern China's Zhejiang province. As one of the two self-reliant support projects for the localization of Westinghouse's AP1000 third-generation nuclear power technology in China, the power plant has a total planned capacity of six 1,250-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units, which are to be built in three phases. Two AP1000-based nuclear power units are to be built in Phase I. State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) (Beijing) is serving as the general contractor for the project. China Nuclear Industry Fifth Construction Company Limited (Shanghai) is serving as the construction general contractor.

Construction of the nuclear island for Unit 1 of Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant began in March 2009. Concrete placing for the conventional island of Unit 1 was completed on January 28, 2011. The generator rotor for Unit 1 was erected into its final position on October 12, 2012. According to the schedule, units 1 and 2 will be put into commercial operation in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
