Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the erection of the upper part of the high- and medium-pressure cylinder into its final position, the erection of all three steam cylinders of the steam turbine for Unit 1 in the conventional island of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant was completed on October 19, 2012.

The installation of the conventional island for Fujian Fuqing Nuclear Power Company Limited's (FFNPC) (Fuqing, Fujian) Fuqing Nuclear Power Project marks a new milestone, following the completion of the erection for the No. 2 low-pressure cylinder on September 23 and the No. 1 low-pressure cylinder on October 12, 2012, according to an announcement from China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) (Beijing) on October 24, 2012.

Steam turbine erection is a critical node in the key path for the erection of a conventional island. Completion of the node has paved a firm foundation for the erection of the generator rotor, the steam turbine trial run, and the hot testing in the next stage.

The Fuqing Nuclear Power Station is located at Qianxue Village, Sanshan Town in Fuqing City, in eastern China's Fujian province. The project has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units. Total investment in the project will be about $14 billion. FFNPC, a joint venture of CNNC Nuclear Power Company Limited (Beijing) (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Corporation Limited (Fuzhou, Fujian) (39%) and Fujian Provincial Investment and Development Group Company Limited (10%), is responsible for the development and future operations of the project. China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (CNPE) (Beijing), another subsidiary of the CNNC, is serving as the general contractor for the construction of the project.

Construction of Phase I (units 1 and 2) kicked off on November 21, 2008. Construction of Unit 3 kicked off on December 31, 2010. According to the schedule, units 1 and 2 will begin operations in 2013 and 2014, respectively; Unit 3 will begin operation in 2015, and the entire project will begin operations in 2018.
