Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) (Mexico City, Mexico) plans to construct a combined-cycle, natural gas-fuelled electric power station in the town of Topolobampo, in the northern region of the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. The estimated investment for the project is $750 million.
The Topolobampo II power station will consist of a two-on-one configuration, with two 250-megawatt (MW) GE MS9001FA combustion turbines, or equivalent, with a heat-recovery steam generator (HRSG) driving a 200-MW steam turbine generator set in a combined-cycle configuration. The power station will provide about 700 MW at peak capacity help meet some of the residential and industry demands of the area.
The station will occupy about 45 acres, and the natural gas will be supplied through the planned El Encino-Topolobampo section of Mexico's north-northwest pipeline system, which is planned to be operational by the end of 2016. Mexico is racing to keep up with rising electricity demand by retiring costly oil-burning power plants and building more natural gas-fuelled plants.
The project will create 300 jobs during the peak of the construction phase, and about 15 jobs when it is completed.
CFE plans to begin construction at the beginning of 2015. The power station is scheduled for full operations in early- to mid-2018.
