Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction of the 208-megawatt (MW) Amazon Windfarm US East Station project in North Carolina began this month.
When complete, the project will produce power for Amazon.com's (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) cloud-computing data centers in Virginia and Ohio. The project has a total investment value of $416 million, and is seeking to meet a December 2016 deadline.
Located near Elizabeth City, the project, which is owned by Iberdrola Renewables USA (Portland, Oregon), which is part of the Iberdrola group (Bilbao, Spain), recently awarded Wanzek Construction (West Fargo, North Dakota) the general contract for the project. Wanzek will be responsible for the civil and mechanical work, and for hiring subcontractors.
The project will utilize 104 Gamesa (G-114) wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW. The project will be constructed in Pasquotank and Perquimans counties, North Carolina.
