The largest project planned for completion this quarter is the Amazon Wind Farm U.S. East project. The windfarm will include 104 2-megawatt (MW) wind turbines to generate 208 MW of power, which will go to the power grid that helps supply Amazon.com Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) data centers, providing the facility's name. Avangrid Renewables (Portland, Oregon), a subsidiary of Avangrid Incorporated (NYSE:AGR) (New Haven, Connecticut) and part of the Iberdrola Group (Bilbao, Spain) will own and operate the facility, which is the first utility-scale windfarm in North Carolina.
Solar energy also features heavily in the state's planned project completions, with seven solar projects valued at $528.3 million planned for completion between October and December of this year. The projects range in size from 15.4 MW to 100 MW and carry a total investment value (TIV) of $13.5 million to $173 million. The $173 million project belongs to Principal Solar Incorporated's (Dallas, Texas) 78.5-MW photovoltaic (PV) solar farm near Hope Mills, North Carolina. The project began construction May 2015 and is expected to be wrapped up later this month. Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) signed a 15-year agreement to buy power from the project, according to a statement released by Principal Solar. Principal Solar also is constructing the $135 million, 100-MW Sunrise PV Solar Park near Fayetteville. Construction on this facility began in late spring 2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Alpha Energy (Annapolis, Maryland) is acting as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on both projects.
Leading the Industrial Manufacturing Industry into second position for the state in terms of value is the $200 million expansion of Facebook Incorporated's (NYSE:FB) (Menlo Park, California) data center in Forest City. The expansion consists of constructing a 700,000-square-foot second building on the existing data center campus. Turner Construction Company (Charlotte) is acting as general contractor on the project, which is expected to be completed in early December.
The Alternative Fuels Industry's sole project completion for the quarter comes in at a hefty $214 million in project value. Enviva Pellets Sampson LLC's (Bethesda, Maryland) grassroot fuel pellet mill in Clinton began construction in late 2014 and is expected to be completed later this year. The facility will process wood waste into 515,000 tons per year of wood fuel pellets.
