Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Doing business as Sunnyside Ethanol LLC (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), private investor-owned Consus Ethanol LLC's (Pittsburgh) plans to build a $250 million fuel-ethanol plant in western Pennsylvania have been knocked unconscious in a fight with creditors to get the funding they need to move the project into the next phase of development.
Consus was working on getting the final permit for the project, and Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) provided the licensed process technology. Bateman Litwin NV (Amsterdam, Netherlands) was to act as the design-build contractor for the estimated $250 million project.
Plans were to create an 80 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant that would have required more than 30 million bushels of locally grown corn annually. Plans also involved installing a carbon-dioxide capturing system on the fermentation tanks to convert the gas into food-grade carbon dioxide.
The Curwensville project is a bit larger in scope and cost, with plans to incorporate a 300-megawatt waste-coal-fired power plant along with 88 million gallons of ethanol capacity. Cost estimates for this project are in the $310 million range.
During the past year in Pennsylvania, four ethanol plant projects have been put on-hold, and four projects have been cancelled.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 177 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 145 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
