Dakota Ethanol LLC (Wentworth, S.D.) completed construction in August 2001 of a $44 million grassroot ethanol plant in Wentworth, South Dakota. The plant will produce 40 million gallons per year of Ethanol using approximately 40,000 bushels daily or 14.8 million bushels per year of corn as a feedstock. In addition, the plant will produce 120,000 tons per year of dried distillers grain for use as a livestock feed.
Broin & Associates (Sioux Falls, S.D.) provided engineering, procurement, and construction services for the new plant that currently employs approximately 35 people.
Dakota Ethanol, jointly owned by Lake Area Corn Processors Cooperative (89%) and Broin & Associates (11%), is now the largest ethanol producer in South Dakota. Lake Area Corn Processors Cooperative has over 900 investors consisting of farmers and non-farmers. Broin & Associates specializes in designing, building and managing ethanol plants in the United States.
